 Hattie has now ventured into Warsaw, Poland. On Thursday, October 23, 2008, they will begin their day with a visit to the Therapeutic Center "Goplanska" for alcohol addicts. Once the tour is completed the delegates will begin their meeting with the Institute of Health Psychology of the Polish Psychological Association. While in the meeting they will review issues as alternative treatment approaches, spirituality in recovery, addressing the needs of women with children who are addicted, and treatment for the incarcerated. Upon completion of the meeting the delegates will be allowed to explore Warsaw for the remainder of the day.
Friday, October 24, 2008, the delegates will begin the day with a visit to a MONAR facility followed by the meeting with The National Bureau for Drug Prevention. MONAR is a non-governmental organization that helps people in difficult life circumstances, who may be socially excluded, are homeless, living with AIDS or addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. The meeting will focus on education of the professional health community, the use of the internet for continuing education opportunities and the use of media programming in the networking of professionals and the recovering community. Saturday, October 25, 2008, will be a cultural day where the delegates get to discover the beauty of Warsaw during visits to the Old Town with Castle Square, the house od Madame Sklodowska-Curie, St. John Cathedral and Market Square. Warsaw's Old Town has been placed on the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites as "an outstanding example of a near-total reconstruction of a span of history covering the 13th to the 20th century. They will see the Royal Castle, the place where in 1971 the first European constitution was signed, visit the Ghetto Memorial to the Heroes of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943, the monument of the WarsawUprising in 1944 and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and enjoy a walk through the Royal Lazienki Park with Chopin's moniment and the elvedere Palace. Saturday evening they will enjoy the private Chopin piano concert at the historical building of the Royal Lazienki Park. Sunday, October 26, 2008, the delegates will get ready to depart from Warsaw and make a transit stop in Munich. From there they will step aboard for the train ride to Krakow. The delegates will be able to enjoy a walking tour in Karkow. Karkow has long been Poland's cultural capital and a year-long arts extravaganza has fostered and released the city's diverse creative heritage. On Monday, October 27, 2008, they will depart for a drive to Auschwitz (Oswiecim). The delegates will be able to explore the grounds and history of Auschwitz's concentration camps, established in mid-1940, more than a year before the Germans embarked upon the "Endlosung der Judenfrage" (Final Solution of the Jewish Question). The plan, systematically carried out, was to murder all the Jews living in the countries occupied by the Third Reich. Tuesday, October 28, 2008, delegates rail back to Warsaw for the final night in Poland. A farewell dinner will be provided. Wednesday, October, 29, 2008, Depart from Warsaw, with a transit stop again in Munich, then onto New York Kennedy International Airport. Welcome Home Hattie!! |
