Where in the World is Hattie Going?

Hattie Stein of the Dodge City Catholic Social Service Office will be departing on Thursday, October 16, 2008, for Russia and Poland.    Hattie will begin her trip from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport making a small stop in Frankfurt, Germany, then onward to Moscow, Russia.  She will arrive into St. Petersburg on Saturday, October 18, 2008.  Once at the Ambassador Hotel they will have time to rest and freshen up before receiving a brief overview of Russia while dining.  On Sunday, October 19, 2008, they will begin a breath-taking day filled with a tour of the Catherine's Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, the former summer residence of the Russian Imperial family and a fascinating monument of the world's architectual and gardening arts of the 18-19th centuries.  Catherine's Palace facade is the longest in all of Europe, stretching more than 1,000 feet in a fantastic profusion of columns, windows, pilasters and statues.  The Palace which contains exqusite decorative objects, furniture, Russian and Western-European paintings, unique collections of porcelain, arms, decorative bronze and sculptures is also famous for the Eighth Wonder of the World - the magnificent Amber Room.  The day will be filled with more sightseeing and an evening at the Imperial Hermitage Theatre viewing the Swan Lake Ballet by Pyotr I.  Tchaikovsky.
